Municipality of Boechout
With this project, together with the municipality of Boechout, we developed a forward-looking masterplan for the cemeteries of Boechout and Vremde. Responding to the societal trend of experiencing cemeteries more as parks and places of reflection, we designed a masterplan that places peace, contemplation, and connection at its core.
The interventions include phased expansions and renewals, always within a green and low-maintenance framework. We created farewell spaces offering intimacy and views of the scattering meadows, providing visitors with serene places for farewell and remembrance.
In addition to space for traditional burials, the masterplans also offer perspectives on renewed forms of ash interment through contemporary columbaria and urn vaults. By linking to walking routes and the surrounding landscape, these cemeteries are transformed from isolated islands into green lungs and places of rest, silence, and encounter.
