Private garden in Zandvoorde

This garden is located in the hilly and wooded landscape around Zandvoorde. The beautiful surroundings were the reason why residents wanted to come and live here. This was a very important starting point to begin the design! Despite being commissioned to design a garden, my goal was not to make the family feel like they only live in a house with a garden. Being able to experience the surrounding landscape on a daily basis was a very important starting point for me. But for quality living in such open landscape, a lot of puzzle pieces have to come together such as openness and security, views, privacy, creating wind lee places, nature and garden culture, water issues, a heliport, introverted and extroverted integration, beauty and functionality, etc. … Only when all these puzzle pieces together formed a conclusive design and the garden was finally realized could a particularly nice compliment from the owner sound like this: ‘Andy, thank you for the garden! It’s exactly the way it has always looked …’
