A small garden as a ‘central village square’

The chapel of ‘O.-L.-Vrouw Nood zoekt Troost’, located in the small hamlet ‘De Westhoek’ in Zonnebeke, is celebrating its 98th anniversary this year and has been thoroughly renovated. Commissioned by the church federation Ypres-Poperinge, a design was made for the layout of the small garden located behind the chapel. A garden in which the people of this small community could meet each other on occasion was the starting point. Because at ‘De Westhoek’ there is no communal meeting place to date.

A town, village or hamlet needs a central meeting place. A meeting place in the form of a square or a ‘Central Green’ where people can meet during a small event a few times a year.
To create a strong and close-knit community at ‘De Westhoek’ in the near future, the garden with its round meeting place will play a crucial role here!
