The assignment for this private project in the Belgian Ardennes was to restore the old garden and design a new garden around a new annex to the house.

The challenge was to make the new garden area flow seamlessly and harmoniously into the old garden area. To this end, the design used the same plants and materials as in the old garden.

The brick of the house was used for the retaining walls. The Belgian bluestone from the terraces in the old area was used in a contemporary way in the new garden area.

In addition, an optimal visual relationship between the interior of the new part of the house and the adjacent contemporary garden was an important objective. The residents now live inside and outside at the same time, so to speak.

This project proves that old and new can be brought into perfect harmony with each other, giving us the impression that everything has always been like this.
