Master Plan for the Steenbergen Domain Erpe-Mere

Client

Municipality of Erpe-Mere

The area surrounding the Erpe-Mere community centre has long been an important place for residents. In addition to the community centre itself, the site also hosts the local football club, the sports hall, the public welfare office (OCMW), the library, and the cultural centre. With the new master plan, we aim to bring these diverse functions together into one harmonious, green, and user-friendly environment.

A central element of the plan is the new parking area, which is no longer merely functional but becomes an integral part of the landscape design. The parking area blends into the greenery, forming a connection between the wooded surroundings and the administrative centre of the municipality. This creates a natural transition between recreation and activity, between nature and the various facilities.

We also place strong emphasis on traffic safety and overall experience. By separating vehicular traffic from pedestrian movement, we create a low-traffic, safe zone where visitors take centre stage. New green structures and a carefully designed circulation plan ensure a clear and logical organization between cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. In this way, the area gradually transforms into a true park environment, where tranquillity, safety, and social interaction come together.

The master plan also focuses on connecting the site to the surrounding neighbourhoods and introduces new play opportunities for both children and adults. This makes the site not only a functional centre but also a vibrant meeting place where every resident of Erpe-Mere can feel at home, right in the heart of nature.
