On behalf of the municipality of Lo-Reninge, design visions were created for the redevelopment of the cemeteries in Lo and Reninge.

The cemetery in Reninge, located around the Sint-Rictrudis Church, was thoroughly renovated. The most notable intervention was the construction of a new wall surrounding the cemetery and the entrance to the church. My design for the new wall constantly responds to the existing levels of the cemetery in relation to the surrounding sidewalks. The choice of yellow brick fits very well within the context of the village and church architecture. Inspired by old photographs, a design was also created for the main entrance to the church. In addition, unnecessary paving was replaced with grass, allowing the space to truly function again as the church’s ‘yard.’

A master plan was also developed for the cemetery in Lo, proposing similar interventions and enhancements, but this plan was ultimately not implemented.
