Sint-Martens-Lennik village center

The municipality of Lennik wishes to upgrade the village centre of Sint-Martens-Lennik by raising its image quality to a higher level.

The project area comprises 3 zones. The square in front of the church, the churchyard and a playground.

Although through traffic must remain possible, a softening can be carried out in front of the church. A small ‘village green’ can be realised there. A place to meet. Following time-honoured tradition, there is a large lime tree under which the community can organise all kinds of meetings in the shade of the tree. The central green is bordered by a stylish trellis with benches here and there. At the beginning, there is a fountain on a small square that extends across the street to the playground, thus enhancing accessibility and creating a traffic calming effect. The parking spaces now in front of the church in the village square can be moved to the playground. A balance between parking, play and relaxation is possible there. This design vision also included the greening of the churchyard. This will give the village centre a green supporting structure that will connect all parts of the village, spatially and aesthetically.
