Municipality of Galmaarden
On behalf of the municipal council of Galmaarden, a master plan was drawn up for the redevelopment and future vision of the four municipal cemeteries: Vollezele, Galmaarden, Tollembeek, and Hernout. This master plan is guided by a clear ambition: to transform the cemeteries into green, serene, and low-maintenance places where remembrance and contemplation take center stage.
The core of this design process was greening and reducing hard surfaces, with attention to a sustainable layout that eases the maintenance burden for the municipality. In addition to these practical objectives, the integration of a new memorial and farewell site also formed an important part of the assignment.
For each cemetery, a separate master plan was developed, tailored to the character and context of its location. Finally, the municipality of Galmaarden took the initiative to implement the first phase in Vollezele and Galmaarden on its own. This marked the beginning of a broader vision in which the cemeteries of Vollezele and Galmaarden are being redeveloped in a respectful, future-oriented, and sustainable way.
