Zandvoorde Village Center

Residential extension & green extension – Two birds with one stone!

Commissioned by the municipality of Zonnebeke, a master plan was drawn for the future development of Zandvoorde village center. At the time of the assignment, it appeared that a number of homes were for sale on the Zandvoorde site. An opportunity for the municipality of Zonnebeke to realize a new residential development in the village through a purchase policy presented itself.

This master plan demonstrated that not only an important residential expansion in the village was possible, but at the same time a significant green expansion. The designed urban planning in the form of an English ‘Crescent’ could be perfectly realized there. The facades of the houses, the roads, the park and the cemetery have already been designed in detail to clearly demonstrate the intended atmosphere. Such a concept, with the possible realization of 25 family homes, automatically creates a large ‘Village Green’.  A place where the inhabitants of Zandvoorde can meet each other, organize events and live and relax in a classy and multifunctional green village park.

The master plan also included the greening of the cemetery and its extension in order to create one green park where all parts of the village center flow into one another. The expansion of the cemetery was realized in the meantime. See link below.
