Master plan cemetery Kapellen

A master plan was developed for the Kapellen cemetery. The proposed changes over the existing condition are:

A complete greening of the cemetery with grass, taking into account the legislation on the total ban of pesticides. Only the main and major connecting axes remain paved.
A replanting of the causeway along the main axis. An informal planting of standard trees to achieve a romantic park atmosphere.
Preliminary preservation of urn vaults and columbarium. This cremation garden will acquire an expanding carcass so that, in time, a new and more beautiful form of ash delivery will be spread across the cemetery. A first phase was already implemented for this purpose in 2017.
The infill of a farewell site with 4 scatter plots in the open area to the left of the main axis.
Provision of an urn cemetery in the woods along Old Heath Street with naturally biodegradable urns.
Clear and attractive access to the immediate area with the goal of intertwining daily life with the cemetery and removing the taboo of a repulsive cemetery.
