Recreation Park Koninginnehof Ostend

The Maria Hendrika Park is a park in the Belgian city of Ostend. The park was created at the request of King Leopold II, who initially wanted to name the park Bois de Boulogne after the famous landscape park on the outskirts of Paris. Eventually, the park was named after Leopold’s wife Maria Hendrika of Austria (source wikipedia).

The 37-hectare park was created in 1892 with winding walkways and 3 large ponds. A recreational island is located in the Queen’s Pond. The Queen’s Court. On it, there is a restaurant, a playground and miniature golf. The Maria Hendrika Park was renovated between 2003 and 2006. The Queen’s Court, however, was not renovated. The current private owner wishes to invest in the island to provide it with adapted recreational facilities according to the needs of our current times.

This is a unique opportunity to recreate the island in the style and atmosphere of the Maria Hendrika Park, thus anchoring it to the park. Because at present, this special place is perceived as a gap in the total renovation vision for Maria Hendrika Park. This redevelopment should be the perfect finishing touch to the Maria Henry Park renovated 20 years ago.
