In inferno quod ego habitem in bello gravi corporis et munitum
Monumentum est domus animae meae mater angelum meum et salvator
In paradiso enim vivo ego amplius
Menin Road – Ypernstrasse – Landscape, Form and Psyche was an art route along the N8 running through the municipalities of Menen, Wervik, Zonnebeke and Ypres. The artworks in situ had to depict the dramatic course of a 4-year trench war through which the ‘Menin Road’ or ‘Ypernstrasse’ ran. For participation in this art route, I designed an art installation called ‘Resurrectionem’ or ‘Resurrection’. The art installation was not realised. Nevertheless, this design can live its own life and portray my artistic empathy with ‘Landscape, Form & Psyche’ of the site and its war history forever.
resurrectionem
The design is made up of two entities.
The ‘bunker-tomb’ and the ‘redeeming-mother’.
On an open field overlooking the forests of Zandvoorde, they are visually connected. Both entities cannot do without each other to convey the message of ‘resurrection’. In this sense, the art installation acquired the name ‘resurrectionem’
In hell I live in war the bunker is the tomb of my body
The grave is the temple of my soul my mother is my angel and saviour
In paradise I live in peace
