Zandvoorde Cemetery

The extension of the cemetery is a first phase in the realization of a master plan drawn up by our office for the redevelopment of the entire village center of Zandvoorde.

On the adjoining meadow behind the present cemetery an expansion zone will be created in which all forms of burial will have a place. Centrally, there is a large scattering lawn surrounded by round clipped hedges of Ligustrum. The circular farewell place forms the central point of the cemetery. The mosaic cobblestones of the adjoining market are extended to the circular farewell area so that the market and cemetery can be seen as a whole. The farewell place can also be used as a place of reflection or as a resting place on the bicycle network. The church cone was integrated into the design for this purpose. A staircase elaborated in detail forms an interesting connection between the existing cemetery and the expansion zone and is part of the design to realize a gateway effect with the inscription: Zandvoorde Cemetery

Hornbeam trees will be planted around the central open space and here and there in the cemetery. Along 3 sides of the cemetery, wide open canals will be provided in which reeds and iris pod will be planted.

Such layout will ensure that the cemetery will grow into a valuable landscape element.
