Landscape park Diefhondbos Menen

In 1885, a meander of the Lys was cut off at the site called “Diefhond. In the old bed and on the lands between the Old Lys and the straightening, they dumped the household waste of the city of Menin. In 1975, the Intercommunale Voor huisvuilverwerking van Menen en Omliggende (IVMO) took over this task. The garbage from Wevelgem and Wervik now ends up here, too. Dumping ends on Oct. 21, 1983. The old landfill was rezoned on the regional plan as a forest area. A first tree planting day was organized on November 23, 1985. Multiple tree-planting campaigns would follow. In 2014, I was commissioned by the intercommunal MIROM Menen to draw a development plan. This with European support (Interreg). The landscaping plan involves finishing the forest with attention to nature development, leveling work, additional plantings, construction of hiking trails, creation of a natural play area, installation of a rest and experience point and recreational access.
